First of all I’d like to say Happy New Year to everybody. I hope you had a safe and happy holiday season. Mrs Jarhead and I rang in the festive new year by going to bed at 9:30 New Years Eve after mixing in a scoop of real coffee with the decaf. Woo hoo!
On to the post!
Ok, I’m not going to pretend to be Nostradamus and make a bunch of predictions that could be interpreted five different ways.
There are things we need to keep an eye on, but as to how they play out is anybody’s guess. According to Chris Martenson some things we need to watch are: the price of oil. If Iran and the US wind up going toe to toe he thinks oil prices could hit $200 a barrel – talk about economic headwinds! A trade war with China; the world rejecting Japanese debt; and European debt issues.
And of course the presidential election is this year.
Instead of boring you with predictions that are likely to be wrong I’m asking you what you think is going to happen this year.
Here are the things I’d like you to prognosticate on:
1. Economy – crash or no crash? Slow steady decline? Things will start to slowly get better? Will Europe drag us down? What do you think?
2. Oil – will oil prices go up, down, or remain the same? Why?
3. Who will be elected president? Will Obama stay in the saddle or will one of the Republicans rise to power? If you’re thinking Republican who do you think is the likely candidate?
4. Will the world end in December rendering all these things pointless?
That’s it! Let me know what you think in the comments with as much detail as you’d care to throw in. Next year we can come back to this post and see what people were thinking and what really happened.
