Ranger Man recently wrote this post about Harold Camping and his failed (again) doomsday prediction. Nope, sorry. It didn’t happen last Friday, which makes me happy that I didn’t take out that huge loan from Louie the Loan Shark to blow in Vegas over the weekend.
But here’s the thing. He at least knows that his prediction didn’t pan out and now he can move on with his life. It seems that as preppers we spend a lot of time watching the news for an economic crash, or Peak Oil, or some other kind of disaster that will basically cause the end of the world as we know it. But it hasn’t happened yet. Sometimes I feel like Mr. Camping when I hear predictions of certain economic (or whatever) doom by a certain date and it never happens.
Seems to me the government has become very adept at keeping us limping along despite huge underlying financial rot. We’re trillions of dollars in debt? *Yawn* So what? The housing market crashed and real estate is no longer worth what it was? Big deal. We’ve got the government willing to hand out money and limp us along until we all start spending again and get the economy back on track.
Seriously, other than natural disasters do we really have anything to worry about? Or are we just a bunch of Harold Campings sitting around waiting for an end of the world that will never come.
Let me know what you think in the comments.
